A recent video by TechAltar stated that India is now the most exciting smartphone market in the world where some of the best smartphones get launched first. While this has been true for a while, 2019 is the year, this notion could be really supercharged as every company in the world starts focusing on India if they haven’t already. 2019 has already begun and we’ve already seen some impressive phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7, Samsung Galaxy S10+ and the Huawei P30 Pro, the real fireworks are about to begin as there are a ton of smartphones that are rumoured to be launched in the coming weeks and months.

OnePlus 7 Pro

Perhaps the most hyped phone this year in India will be the OnePlus 7 Pro, at least, for the premium segment of the market. OnePlus has taken India by storm and the 7 Pro promises even more with a game changing display, triple camera setup and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 processor. This one will supposedly be India’s favourite flagship phone but it will be more expensive than ever with many predicting the price crossing the Rs 50,000 barrier. It is launching on May 14 in India synced with its global launch.

Google Pixel 3a

Google for a longtime has been rumoured to be developing a budget Pixel smartphones. Alphabet CFO Ruth Porat has hinted at impeding announcements around new Pixel smartphones at Google IO which is on May 7. Leaked renders and specifications point towards a dumbed down Pixel for the masses with the same award winning camera technology and Google’s quirky design language. Many experts are predicting it will be priced at around Rs 30,000 which could upend the upper mid-range of the smartphone market, especially for shutterbugs.

Poco F2

The biggest sleeper hit of 2018 was the Poco F1 – a new sub brand by Xiaomi focusing on power users. The Poco F1 had flagship specs comparable to the OnePlus 6 but it was more than 33% cheaper. This year an encore is expected which many believe will be based on the Mi 9 which isn’t hitting India. That would mean it could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 processor, have better cameras and displays making it a true flagship killer in the making.

Nokia 9 PureView

Already announced to great pomp at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 last month, the Nokia 9 PureView is the world’s first smartphone to have 5 cameras on the back, powered by a Light controller. It promises incredible image quality and bokeh effects, apart from being on par with most 2018 flagships in terms of functionality and horsepower. It also comes in Nokia’s elegant design language which makes this one of the phones to look out for in 2019. It is expected to launch soon in India.

Huawei Mate X

While it hasn’t been launched yet in India, Huawei has announced that this foldable smartphone will come to India in the second half of the year. It is perhaps the most elegant foldable smartphone design we’ve seen to-date and now it could be the only one incoming to India in wake of the issues Samsung is grappling with the Galaxy Fold. Apart from its unique form and design, it is power packed beast featuring more or less the same hardware as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro which still remains one of the best phones around in the market.
