Best Gigs in Delhi NCR

F16s: Ownage Entertainment’s IP, SoundTank, celebrates its first year with the brilliant, Chennai-based alternative pop band, The F16s. The band’s music romanticises the lonely, desolate charms of a small town whilst also celebrating the mundanity of everyday life. The band describe themselves as ‘a pop band disguised in a rock and roll outfit’. Lyrically and sonically rich, the melodic sound indie rock sound of the band has catchy pop vocals with grooving bass lines, peppy synths and upbeat drums that entrap the listener. They play in Delhi after a very long time later this week at Mango Kitchen & Bar on Wednesday. 

DVS1 (extended set): Zak Khutoretsky, also known as DVS1 is the pioneering American/ Russian DJ and techno producer based out of Minneapolis. This iconic techno phenom is reputed for his finesse behind the decks and his raw infectious energy along with a sound that adheres to his sensibilities and fondness for pure techno that will enthral purists. His sound is uniquely his— the kind of minimal techno that reverberates across the club floor while at the same time sending listeners in a trance-like state. The techno purist makes his India debut with Delhi’s Auro Kitchen and Bar hosting the first leg of his tour on Thursday, 14 November.  

Umfang: Emma Burgess-Olson, DJ/producer and founder of Discwoman and better known as Umfang, is a defiant feminist visionary in Techno music. Her sets are hard-hitting while crafted with the undulating flow, weaving strange and alien sounds into mind-bending tapestries. Predominately operating in the minimal techno space, her sets revolve around repetitive patterns while also exploring irregular rhythms. Catch her at Summer House Cafe on Friday, 15 November. 

Roman Flügel: One of Germany’s most revered electronic artists, Roman Flügel is known for his chameleonic talents behind the decks— his mixes range from acid techno, deep house, and electro to more experimental work drawing from jazz, Krautrock, and ambient music and sometimes even involving fun, kitsch-y territories like pop. His sound is cerebral, exploratory, occasionally caustic, and often genius. He plays at Auro Kitchen and Bar on Saturday, 16 November. 

Dicky Trisco: The godfather of Scottish Disco makes his way to India courtesy the folks at Helsinki Nights at Serai at Olive on Friday, 15 November. The formidable DJ and producer is “addicted to the way music connects people and makes for better days”. His house and disco sets aren’t limited by their genres and have a little bit of everything and are joyous in a way that gets everyone grooving. All in all, he’s a very very fun DJ and coupled with the rooftop ambience at the scenic Serai cocktail bar at the Olive, this should be a night to remember!

Far Out Left Festival: Two days of cutting edge dance music from India and around the world, held in India’s financial capital Mumbai— Far Out Left returns with its second edition boasting a bigger line-up. The day-long festival will also see Amit Trivedi, The Local Train, As We Keep Searching be part of the local line-up. The concert promises to be a one of a kind immersive musical experience with a production level never seen before in India.
