A couple of weeks ago, there was some coronavirus induced heartache for PlayStation 4 and potential PlayStation 5 games. Sony had announced that The Last of Us 2 would be delayed. Well, it turns out, that it is not going to be delayed for too long. It is coming at the end of June — June 19 to be precise.
Earlier, PlayStation chief Shigeru Miyamoto had indicated that the game would be delayed in the quest to release a polished game. The original date for the game was slated for February 2020 launch which was further pushed back to May 29th. Sony had announced the game was indefinitely delayed with many believing that the COVID19 crisis had a huge role to play in its delay.
However, Naughty Dog has claimed that the game was more or less done by April 2 and the delay was more related to logistical issues.
The Last of Us 2 is the sequel to the blockbuster Naughty Dog original which came out originally in 2013 at the fag end of the life of the PlayStation 3 selling 17 million copies of the game. It was also later remastered for the PlayStation 4. The game has become so iconic that HBO is also developing a live-action show led by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame.
It is supposedly going to be one of the major exclusives for the PlayStation 5. The game is highly anticipated — so much so that it has already been leaked. The game is supposedly going to explore hatred in stark contrast to its predecessor.
Naughty Dog is, of course, the iconic studios behind not just The Last of Us franchise but also the defining Uncharted franchise. Games by Naughty Dog are one of the main reasons to invest in a PlayStation.
Apart from Last of Us 2, Sony has also announced that Ghost of Tsushima is also coming out, however, it has been delayed to give the Last of Us 2 some breathing space. The Ghost of Tsushima was slated to be released on June 26 but now will release on July 17.
Last month, Sony released the technical details for the PlayStation 5 following it up by releasing details about its new DualSense controller for the PS5 earlier this month.
