Apple released the trailer for its upcoming movie “On The Rocks” directed by Sofia Coppola starring Bill Murray, Rashida Jones and Marlon Wayans. The project re-teams Coppola and Murray, who worked together in “Lost in Translation.” She won an Oscar for best original screenplay for the film, while Bill Murray earned a best actor nomination.

“On The Rocks” will be a comic adventure that tells the story of a young woman “Laura” (Rashida Jones), who has begun to doubt the fidelity of her husband (Marlon Wayans), and teams up with her playboy father, Felix (Bill Murray), to investigate her husband’s affair. As the two begin prowling New York at night, careening from uptown parties to downtown hotspots, they begin to realize the heart of their journey that lies in their own relationship.

Director Sofia Coppola claimed that she added a pinch of a short film titled “Love Letter to New York”, and is about how people see a crazy relationship differently from our parents. It is a comic celebration that binds the modern day families together in knots.

Coppola, who is the daughter of The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola, told EW that Bill Murray’s character was encouraged by “moments with my dad and the men of his generation.”

“Being in a relationship, you look at how you’re affected by the way you were raised or what you heard growing up, so I was thinking about all those aspects and how to put my personal feelings and what I was experiencing into a hopefully fun story blending what I was thinking about and the roles you’re juggling at that point in life,” she said.

It’s probably no coincidence that she offered the role of “Laura”’s role to Rashida Jones, whose own father Quincy Jones is a legendary music producer. Quincy Jones was Michael Jackson’s producer. Coppola and Rashida Jones have been friends for years. Jones was one of the inspirations for the role of the protagonist in Lost in Translation that eventually went to Scarlett Johansson. Jones says the two have now had parallel emotional milestones.

The film is written, directed, and produced by Sofia Coppola, co-producer is Caroline Jaczko, and executive producers are Fred Roos, Mitch Glazer, and Roman Coppola. It also stars Jenny Slate, Jessica Henwick, Barbara Bain, Nadia Dajani, Musto Pelinkovicci, and Jules Wilcox.

“On the Rocks” hails from the independent studio A24 and will debut exclusively on Apple TV+ in October. Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app on iPhone, IPad, Mac, Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices. You can get an Apple TV+ subscription for Rs 99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
